Driver sentenced for fleeing officers

Tanya Hansen

A woman from Mohall was sentenced Tuesday in North Central District Court after a guilty plea was entered for fleeing a peace officer-fleeing from a felony.

Tanya Spring Hansen, 47, Mohall, entered her plea after an incident on Jan. 25, when a Ward County deputy observed a vehicle with a headlight out, according to court documents. The deputy activated emergency lights and the siren, but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle proceeded north and west on U.S. Highway 83 and county roads into Renville County, and was stopped on County Road 9. Hansen was placed under arrest.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Hansen fled because she was concerned about the vehicle being impounded and she knew she had “multiple warrants.” The driver admitted to ingesting methamphetamine and cannabis that day, and admitted to having a small amount of cannabis in the vehicle. During a search, deputies found a tube containing methamphetamine and a grinder containing cannabis. Hansen was charged with possession of paraphernalia as well as fleeing officers, and was taken to Ward County Jail.

Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Hansen to 366 days confinement with 55 days served, two years supervised probation, a chemical dependency evaluation, and $556.56 fines/fees.

Starting at $2.99/week.
