Williston firefighters respond to apartment fire
WILLISTON — The Williston Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire at a Williston apartment on Wednesday afternoon.
The Retreat Apartments building on the 3600 block of Seventh Street West was evacuated as the report was being made and a total of two engines and a ladder truck responded to the scene.
Crews observed the active evacuation upon their arrival, and confirmed reports that the fire was located in the kitchen of one of the units. After crews entered the apartment in question they found the fire had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. Crews investigated the incident and ensured the fire was extinguished entirely, and determined no injuries were reported.
According to fire department information, the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and related to stove-top cooking, and the loss from the incident was reduced significantly by a functioning sprinkler system limiting the damage to one apartment.
