A row of 16 decorated, artificial trees with a lighted Santa, nutcracker and two snowmen stand along U.S. Highway 2 at an entrance to Surrey. Surrey Park Board member Connie Tollefson with her husband, Chuck, along with Laura Volk and Jacob Forsman, assembled the display. The park board utilized a gaming funds grant from Devil’s Fire in Surrey through the local American Legion Post 91 to purchase the decorations. Although it was a lot of work, Connie Tollefson said it has been wonderful to hear the community’s positive comments. She said plans are to expand the display in future years. The trees are secured to posts in the ground and are lit from dusk to dawn. The grant from Devil’s Fire and the American Legion also allowed for the park board to host a community sleigh ride event on Dec. 10.
