Minot woman sentenced for child abuse
Tiffany Sasha Lester, 35, Minot, was sentenced in North Central District Court on Monday after being found guilty of felony child abuse in July.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Minot police received a call from an individual who was with another person identified as Jane Doe in the affidavit. Doe reported that a household or family member had bit and hit her several times. The caller told investigators that Doe had cuts on her fingers, face and arms. Investigators later spoke to Doe, who said the assault began when Lester attempted to kick her out of the home, saying she wanted to beat and kill her before tackling and attacking her.
Lester had pleaded not guilty after being charged in October 2022 but was found guilty by a Ward County jury after a two-day trial. District Court Judge Stacy Louser sentenced Lester to five years in the Department of Corrections, to first serve 18 months. Lester will be required to complete three years of supervised probation upon release and must register as an offender against children.
Louser ruled that Lester must also complete a parenting capacity evaluation, a mental health evaluation and anger management evaluation. Louser also put a no-contact order in place, preventing Lester from having any communication with Jane Doe. Lester was also assessed $1,100 in court fines and indigent recoupment fees.
