The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, North Dakota Beef Commission and North Dakota Cattle Women put on a salute to servicemen and women and their families at a grill-out picnic for Beef Industry Military Appreciation Day at the State Fair on Tuesday.

“North Dakota’s cattle ranchers are proud to host the Beef Industry Military Appreciation Day each year, said NDSA President Jason Leiseth, a cow-calf producer from Arnegard. “It’s a chance to say thanks to our nation’s heroes and to give them a great beef-eating experience so they can advocate for our product wherever their travels take them.”

Members of the organizations served a free meal of roast beef and hotdogs for the growing crowd of families and active-duty military members, who braved a light sprinkling of rain before weather turned more favorable. The event included appearances by North Dakota ag royalty, including Miss Agriculture USA state winner Rose Wendell and Red Angus Princesses Londyn Sackman and Cassidy Job.

A variety of children’s activities also were offered, such as roping, providing families with a break from the hustle and bustle of the State Fair. The roping was overseen by Corby Ward, NDSA chief brand inspector, who walked children through the basics to make sure they “swing clean and throw clean.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
