Minot Food Truck Festival a success

Jen Brodal/MDN Crowds take in the sixth annual food truck festival at Oak Park on Sunday.

More than 20 food trucks, 15 retail vendors, inflatables, games and a free stage dotted the amphitheater and park grounds at Oak Park on Sunday for the sixth year of the Minot Food Truck Festival.

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., droves of people experienced the fine flavors and culinary snacks of the festival.

A $5 entry fee opened up a local retail experience for those attending. Many vendors participated. For the youngsters there were more than 15 bouncy castles, games and lots of treats.

The free stage, emceed by Shawn Sipma, had various entertainment like Full Moon Fire Club breathing fire and throwing fireballs attached to chains. Other entertainment included Myles Barcomb and the ForLoren.

There was a hotdog eating competition for competitors to eat the most hotdogs in 10 minutes. The winner ate six. A watermelon-eating contest and a no-hands pie-eating contest also were held.

Eric Thoemke of Indak Media said the weather was great and it was great to see so many people stop out for the sixth year of the festival. The attendance was up from the past two years. Thoemke said the festival had 4,500 people this year.

Proceeds from the event go toward Film Dudes, a subsidiary of ND Strong. Film Dudes goes to schools across North Dakota and instructs kids of all ages on filmmaking, Thoemke said.
