Winners of ND State Parade honored

Eloise Ogden/MDN Two types of horsepower – a tractor and a wagon pulled by horses — were two of the units of the Makoti Threshing Show’s entry in the North Dakota State Parade on Saturday in Minot. The threshing show’s entry was awarded the Heritage Award.

Award winners of the North Dakota State Parade have been announced.

Winners, the award and the award sponsor are as follows:

— Budweiser Clydesdales: Grand Marshal Award (overall winner) sponsored by McDonalds.

— Schillinger Auto Body: Flickertail Award sponsored by Bremer Bank.

— Makoti Threshing Show: Heritage Award sponsored by Gooseneck Implement.

Eloise Ogden/MDN The Burdick Job Corps’ Bison Barn Dance entry was awarded the Youth Sweepstakes Award in the North Dakota State Parade held in Minot Saturday.

— CHI St. Alexius: N.D. State Fair Award sponsored by Sign D’zyn.

— Wienbar Harvesting: Pioneer Award sponsored by First Western Bank and Trust.

— Break Forth Bible Church: Roughrider Award sponsored by Affinity First Federal Credit Union.

— Roosevelt Park Zoo: Chairman’s Award sponsored by Verendrye Electric.

— Burdick Job Corps: Youth Sweepstakes Award sponsored by Western Agency Inc.

Eloise Ogden/MDN Break Forth Bible Church presented Noah’s Ark and inflatable animals as its entry in the North Dakota State Parade on Saturday. The church’s entry earned it the Roughrider Award.

— Keller Williams Inspire: Parade Committee Award sponsored by Town & Country Federal Credit Union.

— Cameros of N.D.: Governor’s Trophy sponsored by Mowbray & Sons.

— Minot Trail Riders: Dakota Proud Award sponsored by American Family Insurance Michael Lucy Agency.

— Class of ’69 and Norsk Hostfest: Lewis & Clark Award sponsored by Marketplace Foods.

The parade was held Saturday in Minot.

Eloise Ogden/MDN The Viking longboat entry from the Minot High School Class of 1969 and Norsk Hostfest in the North Dakota State Parade received the Lewis & Clark Award. The longboat launched pool noodles.

Twyla Scott, chairman of the N.D. State Parade Committee, said there were 203 entries in the parade and close to 300 units.

All entries in the parade are not judged but only those requesting to be judged. Parade judges this year were Mary Lentz, respiratory therapist at Sanford Health; Torrac Hayes, Quentin N. Burdick Job Corps; Kasey Breuer, founder of Animal Empowerment League; Chris Bodwell, security at Target; and Tennele Kruse, founder of Kruse’s Critters and the Creative Nest.

This year marked 40 years of the N.D. State Parade. The N.D. State Parade Committee has existed for 42 years but there were no parades in 2011 due to the Souris River flood and again in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
