State Fair releases official statement on Kid Rock concert cancellation
The North Dakota State Fair issued an official statement on Saturday in regard to the cancellation of the Kid Rock concert at Friday night’s fair.
Kid Rock was scheduled as the headline Grandstand concert at the opening day of the fair. About 18,000 people were at the concert. Night Ranger, the opening act, did perform that night.
The statement from the State Fair is as follows:
“The cancellation of the North Dakota State Fair Kid Rock Concert was a decision made by Ward County sheriff, state fair management, Kid Rock’s management, the show’s producer and the stage production manager. Due to the safety concerns of the high winds, lightning and severe weather in the area, the Kid Rock concert was cancelled as it posed a serious threat to the safety of those individuals attending or setting-up the event.”
Prior to the State Fair’s statement, on Friday night, the Ward County Sheriff’s Department had posted on its Facebook page a clarification saying the decision to cancel the Kid Rock concert was not made by the sheriff’s department.
“The Sheriff simply announced the cancellation. We did not cancel the show,” the Facebook posting said.
The State Fair explained in its statement on Saturday that tickets would be refunded and how to obtain the refund.
“The North Dakota State Fair has issued refunds to all ticket purchasers that purchased their tickets off the N.D. State Fair website. If you purchased with a card, the money will be refunded to that card within the standard 5-7 business days. If you purchased with cash, please do not discard your ticket or receipts as we will need a way to show that specific ticket was purchased by the ticket purchaser. A photo ID will be required for cash refunds and the ticket must match the name on the ID. If the ticket was not purchased directly from the N.D. State Fair, you will need to contact the entity or person you purchased the ticket from for refund information,” the statement said.
“We want to thank everyone for your patience,” the statement concluded.
Some fans at the sold-out concert were very upset over its cancellation. Some of them posted their anger on social media while others said they understood why the concert was canceled due to the weather issues.
Kid Rock released a statement on Twitter that night saying he was angry they could not perform for the sold-out crowd in Minot but it was because of high winds. He said no one but Mother Nature could be blamed. He asked in his tweet that fans “be safe leaving and take care of each other.”
