New MHA Tribal Administration Headquarters being constructed
Construction of the new tribal government headquarters for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation is 90% complete as of mid-March.
Planning for a new facility in the Four Bears Complex, west of New Town, began several years ago. It will replace the existing building constructed in the early 1970s, according to tribal information.
The new Tribal Government Headquarters will serve as the “Capital” of the MHA Nation and a Government Support Wing for the Bureau of Indian Affairs-Fort Berthold Agency. The Government Support Wing is to improve relationships with the federal government.
The Tribal Headquarters Administration is a total 47,000 square feet. The Government Support Wing-BIA Fort Berthold Agency is a total 17,500 square feet.
Cheryl Bruce is project manager. Schutz Foss Architects, P.C. of Billings, Mont., is architect for the project and Scull Construction Services, Inc. of Rapid City, S.D., is contractor.
The tentative grand opening is scheduled for July.
A number of other construction projects of the MHA Nation are also being planned, underway or being completed in communities on the Fort Berthold Reservation.
