Arnalyn Repalam identified as murder victim
Arnalyn Repalam, 29, has been identified by Minot police as the victim of a homicide Sunday in Minot.
Her boyfriend, Eric Clayton Venn, 41, Minot, has been charged with Class AA felony murder, Class C felony tampering with physical evidence, and Class C felony fleeing in a motor vehicle in connection with her murder.
According to statements made in court on Monday, Venn had been dating Repalam and had allegedly committed domestic violence against her on Saturday. On Sunday, a prosecutor alleged, Venn went to buy ammunition for his gun and a few hours later shot Repalam five times. A sixth bullet lodged in her cell phone. Repalam was taken to the hospital and died a short time later.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, witnesses identified Venn as the shooter. Venn was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by police. A witness who was driving got out. Venn then got behind the driver’s seat and fled the traffic stop. Venn threw a firearm outside the vehicle before leaving.
The witness who had been with Venn told police that Venn called him earlier, was frantic, and admitted to shooting Repalam. The witness met Venn in southeast Minot. They drove together to northwest Minot, at which point police stopped the vehicle. The witness stopped the vehicle and got out and Venn drove away and was later stopped and detained by police.
According to the affidavit, Venn told police that he had also been in a business partnership with Repalam. Venn and Repalam operated the Filipino Online Retail and Wholesale Store, a business that sold goods from the Philippines online, at 943 Delmar Court in Minot, according to an online listing for the company.
A woman named Arnalyn Repalam had submitted a comment on June 13 in response to a video of an online church sermon posted at dmracing.org that she had been battling anxiety and depression. The woman said in her comment that she was originally from the Philippines but has been living in North Dakota.
Both the personal and business relationships had been going downhill, Venn told police. Venn had accused Repalam of stealing money from their business, according to the police affidavit. He admitted to shooting Repalam multiple times in her upper body and also of throwing a cell phone out of the vehicle while he was in the area of the shooting.
Venn is in custody at the Ward County Jail on $2.5 million bond. He is originally from Texas but has lived in North Dakota for about four years, based on statements made at the court hearing Monday.
A preliminary hearing for Venn is scheduled for Aug. 19.
