North Dakota State Texas Hold’em Championship Poker winners announced
The winner of the North Dakota State Texas Hold’em Championship Sunday was Jon Wurden, of Fischer, Minn. Wurden won $30,000. He is the first winner from Minnesota to earn the state poker champion title.
There were 1,023 players in the championship. Wendy Rupert, co-founder, said winter weather did hinder the turnout to some extent.
The second place winner in the tournament was Becky Hanson, Lisbon. She won $14,500. She and her husband, Eric Hanson, were the first husband and wife team to sit at the final table together to compete for first place. Eric Hanson finished first place in the tournament in 2009. This year he finished in sixth place and won $5,000. In past years, he finished in fourth and seventh place.
Other winners in the poker tournament and their prizes were Whitney Bell, New Town, third place, $9,000; Josh Duchscherer, Sawyer, fourth place, $8,000; Anthony Polsfut, Minot, fifth place, $6,000; Paul Jain, Bismarck, seventh place, $4,000; Dick Ramsdell, Kenmare, eighth place, $3,000; DJ Haman, Towner, ninth place, $2,000; Wade Schecht, Streeter, 10th place, $1,500.
A second tournament to complement the championship tournament was added to the end of year events. The Vegas Classic registered 106 players from across the country and Canada.
Top 10 players and their winnings included Justin Halvorson, Stanley, first place, $4,000; Slade Helde, Minot, second place, $3,000; Michael McKeithan, Minot, third place, $2,000; Barrie Bratt, Saskatchewan, fourth place, $1,700; Eric Bretheim, Minot, fifth place, $1,400; Jim Bohlman, Rugby, sixth place, $1,200; Tyler Berube, Minot, seventh place, $1,000; Sonny Lehman, Rugby, eighth place, $800; Arlie Brandvold, Carrington, ninth place, $600; and Travis Sorenson, Berthold, 10th place, $400.
