Colton Dixon to rock the Magic City

Colton Dixon

Greater Minot Concerts is bringing a family-friendly night of music to the North Dakota State Fair Center Theater Room Sunday. Colton Dixon, a finalist in season 11 of the television contest series “American Idol,” will headline the night along with performances from Manic Drive, Tru Serva and Josh Brewer.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $20 per person or $15 per person for groups of over 10 people. Tickets can be purchased at Gideon’s Trumpet, Jacobsen Music or online at https://www.itickets.com/. There are also some early entry and VIP tickets available. Children ages six and under enter for free.

“The mission for the concert association has always been to bring youth friendly but also family friendly concerts to Minot to cater to that crowd,” said Dan Hansen, board president of Greater Minot Concerts. “I think there’s a need for that in Minot. The State Fair brings in concerts and Hostfest brings in concerts but they’re probably not catering to the crowd that we are quite as much.”

All of the artists brought in by Greater Minot Concerts are Christian artists, which Hansen commented tends to bring a less rowdy crowd.

“The last couple years we’ve been trying to bring two concerts to Minot every year, one in the fall and one in the spring,” Hansen said. “Prior to that we were doing the Rock The Leaves Music Festival and we also did Beardstock for a while, but now we’re focusing on one night concert events.”

Dixon brings an alternative/contemporary rock sound to the stage and performs songs with a message. In his career, he has received four nominations and two wins at the Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Dixon won in 2013 for Best Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year with his debut album “A Messenger.” Dixon then won in the same category in 2015 with his album “Anchor.”

Dixon’s most recent album “Identity” was released in 2017 a features singles “All That Matters” and “Brand New Life.”
