Kim Fundingsland/MDN Brown pelicans can be found in some coastal areas of the United States, including Florida where they confidently approach fishing boats of all sizes in the hopes of finding an easy meal of discarded baitfish or chum. Brown pelicans are somewhat smaller than the American white pelicans that are common summertime inhabitants of North Dakota.
