Summer theatre youth camp registration due Sunday
MSU Summer Theatre is offering its first youth camp for children between the ages of 11 and 18.
“We like to be able to give young actors the opportunity to share our stage, but it’s not always easy to find the right shows for all the talented people who audition,” Chad Gifford, the artistic director for MSU Summer Theatre, said in a news release. “I suggested to our board of directors that we try a camp specifically for older youth and they immediately supported the idea.”
Crystal Michels, president of the Summer Theatre Board, said this fills a gap in theater experiences for area youth.
“Minot is very lucky to have a thriving theatre community and youth programs such as MASK, Western Plains and Mouse River Players, but many of these programs are aimed toward young children and we want to welcome those in an older age group to our stage,” Michels said in the release. Youth will work on acting, singing, and dancing while also experiencing how crews create quality productions in less than two weeks.
This inaugural youth camp will feature Disney’s “High School Musical, Jr.,” which will be presented by the participants of the camp July 17-19. The camp itself will run July 7-16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. most days and is being led by area teachers Jacob Jenkins and Lindsay Kerzmann.
Gifford said there are only 10 spots left. Registration and online video audition are required by March 30. Details on how to register and audition can be found on the MSU Summer Theatre social media pages.
