Magic city skaters bring Broadway to ice

Skaters of all ages from the Magic City Figure Skating Club have been practicing for weeks to present “Lost on Broadway” a musical ice skating performance. The show will be presented at the MAYSA Arena’s Pepsi Rink on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. each evening, with a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 p.m.

This year’s ice show will feature 102 skaters ranging from ages 4 to 19. The skaters have been practicing for weeks to put together the performance which will include music from Broadway shows including Grease, Sound of Music, Moulin Rouge and Mamma Mia.

Skating alongside the Magic City skaters will be Minot native, Leah Neset, who now trains in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and her partner Artem Markelov. Neset and Markleov are three-time National Junior Ice Dance champions and World Junior Ice Dance champions.

Also joining the skaters will be the National Silver Synchro Team from Bismarck, the Capital Ice Chips. The Ice Chips have a total of 11 national championships, one national championship gold medal and six national medals. The team is comprised of skaters under the age of 18 who have passed the juvenile moves field test.
