Art within community: Art shows, competitions showcase local artists
From the street art downtown to the local art galleries, Minot is thriving with talented artists. The upcoming art shows and competitions showcase these talented artists in the community.
Currently on display at the Taube Museum of Art is the “Living Art Exhibit.”
“Artists within the community submitted clothing designs inspired by artwork from the gallery’s collection,” Rachel Alfaro, the museum’s executive director, said. She said some artists took the challenge in a more literal sense such as artist Debbie Kauffman who created a coat that matched the piece “Tree” by Eric Johnson.
Other artists went in a more abstract approach such as Wendy Kimble who was inspired by the piece “Striped Knee Highs” by Galen Willard. Kimble took inspiration from the bright and whimsical colors creating a dress that was not only abstract but also bursting with life.
The “Living Art Exhibit” will remain on display until Friday, Jan. 31. The next show at the museum will be its 4th Annual Members Only Show. An artist reception will be held at the museum on Thursday, Feb. 6, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The Northwest Arts Center at Minot State University is holding its 53rd annual juried art competition, “INT’L Paperworks 2025,” featuring artist and judge Michael Reedy. The competition is displaying 39 artworks by 32 different artists, according to arts center information.
Opened during the height of the pandemic, the Titus and Philemon Art Gallery is home to works by Timmothy Timm, a local artist.Timm’s artwork can be seen in Timm’s two books. According to the gallery’s information, Timm drew inspiration from comics such as Garfield. Timm’s characters offer a bit of whimsy and humor.
