STANLEY – A worldwide performer who now calls North Dakota home, Michael Cartwright will be bringing his band to Stanley to perform Saturday, June 4, at 7 p.m. in the Sibyl Center.

Cartwright “came home” to North Dakota after 20 years as a professional musician in Southern California. Although he never previously lived in North Dakota, the allure of being close to family and a simpler way of life won his heart.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the prestigious University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, graduating in 2007. In the years since, he has made a name for himself as a successful entertainer, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist.

His musical interest began as a jazz trumpet player. He joined The Young Americans (YA’s) Performing Arts organization when he was 18 and moved from New Mexico to California. Four years passed traveling with the YA’s, performing and promoting the joy of music in schools and theaters all around the globe.

A skilled trumpet player, Cartwright breathes life into his instrument – bringing it from a whispering, pensive and haunting cry to a powerful and aggressive rhythmic charge. His vocals transition from a high-energy and soulful serenade to a smooth and sultry lullaby. His musical icons that influence his distinctive sound are Miles Davis, Lionel Richie, Harry Connick Jr. and Prince.

He performs worldwide as the leader of Project M, a variety dance band under the management of the Elan Artists.

The Michael Cartwright Band includes Michael as vocalist and on trumpet and keyboard, Matt Hornbeck on guitar, Darren King on bass and Jim E. Anderson on drums.

The Sibyl Center is a nonprofit and has a suggested donation of $10 at the door. Students are always free.

Starting at $2.99/week.
