population goes up - we need to pay more property taxes even with new growth and increased property values. population goes down if oil crashes - we need to pay more to cover shortfall. new business wants to come to town - we need to pay more so they can pay less or none. i see a pattern here.

Hurray for local control!State trys to provide relief on property tax and the locals want to increase the current gouging of property owners-an unfair tax. Find a different revenue source for schools. Sales tax to the city was a good example-let Minot Area Development be truly private sector.

The School Lands Trust Fund at 2.5 billion dollars in its coffers to date is merely a Golden Calf that politicians and the State of North Dakota worship.
The rest of us must suffer the consequences.

I don't understand why South Prairie isn't a part of Minot because children in South Minot can go to either South Prairie of Minot Schools. Plus, with the roads not being cleaned children are much safer going down Highway 83 during the winter than going to the Minot Public Schools. Something has to give......

There should be one consolidated area school district - not 3 competing districts. Anyone ever hear of economy of scale. Property taxes are killing us all. We need to use our financial resources wisely not build new empires out of small school districts.
RichardW - the one school district idea will never fly - Minot was contacted by Bell district and meetings were held - South Prairie was involved but only Bell area voted to join Minot. Eureka called Minot and also joined a few years after Bell. But for their own reasons -South Prairie and Nedrose want to be independent. I think they think if they join Minot they will be lost - just a number. But Bell has said it was a great idea to join Minot - overwhelmingly. That is the history.
