"Getting banned has nothing to do with civility"
You must be new to these forums and are not yet initiated with some of the things posters have said in here that have led to bans. Civility certainly does have something to do with being banned.

At least I can remain civil enough not to get banned.
Tell me though, are you always such a self-hater, or is this a bit you put on for the online forums?

Ah, yes, so Poetic Justice is back after taking a break following an unceremonious ban.

The 'Skins oughtn't be forced to change their name, though. At some point, the owners will join the rest of us in the 20th century (a century late, at that) and of their own volition, find something more suitable.
(By the way, I'm not sure an actual atheist would feel the need to capitalise the 'a'...)

As an Atheist, the name "L.A. Angels" offends me and I demand they change it!

"I've always wondered why the whiteys didn't just enslave the Natives instead of shipping Blacks in from Africa."
Offhanded flippancy aside, initially the Spanish and Portuguese did. However, the diseases they had brought with them and the overall squalid conditions were a lethal combination. It was a marketing move on the Portuguese' part to begin using people stolen from its other colonies just across the ocean for the work instead, kicking off a lucrative, soul-crushing transatlantic trade nicknamed the Iron Triangle. The cash cow of misery would last for about three centuries, with the American South again the last holdouts in Christendom to abolish the thing. A trend of moral tardiness that still continues, but they thump the Bible loudly down enough there so that maybe nobody notices.
I wonder if it would be OK if they were called "Palefaces"

namexx so very true, I've always wondered why the whiteys didn't just enslave the Natives instead of shipping Blacks in from Africa.
To have racism you have to have prejudice, I have neither.
In the days gone past, White people were known to commit genocide.
Some things never change.

it's not a nickname it's the name of their team... not being racist here but in the days gone past Indians or Natives were known to steal horses, well isn't it fitting our politicians would have that team name in their district.

Will America ever elect a Muslim president?

Leave the name alone people! If you don't like the "Redskins" cheer for somebody else. The owner of the team has the right to choose the name and if he is happy and the majority of the fans are happy leave it be......I hope this team fights for their rights and doesn't cave like the Sioux did.

since the vikings are embarrassing Norwegians everywhere, i demand they quit using their racist name. we can let the messiah pick the new names for all the teams that might offend someone.

Yeah, there's no decent reason not to. Even by the standards of the day, George Preston Marshall was an outlandish racist, whose team was begrudgingly the last in professional football to admit any blacks to the roster. There's nothing historically significant or particularly honorific about the name, either; called 'the Braves' before, Marshall picked 'Redskins' to goose people's sensibilities and build a football franchise that southeastern states could embrace.
