There are several questions I have about this situation? How many years experience did these police officers have, and did they have enough proper training to handle the situation properly? Have you noticed our MPD? I do not see a veteran police officer in the bunch! Why? Oil Money! They have all left to make their fortunes in the oil patch! All we have here is a bunch of "gomer pyles"! Scared *******

namexxx must be sleeping one off! Mark, you seem to 'know' a lot about the exact events of that night. Were you there? Are you the 6th person they are looking for?

from Mark, "How about this poll...Should the police be allowed to tazer someone fleeing from a misdemeanor charge?"
Then this "The fact he was fleeing from a misdemeanor is irrelevant"
The bottom line is, if one doesn't want to be tased, one should not flee an officer, pure and simple.

I know disgusted...what if he did get away to smoke some more grass that night...Oh NO

From what I understand he was fleeing from a possible possession of marijuana charge disgusted, which is a pretty hefty fine and loss of his position on the football team I would imagine...this hardly justifies the officer escalating the situation with the use of a violent act, such as shooting him in the back while scaling a fence with a taser....maybe in the prison yard, but not in the backyard!

The fact he was fleeing from a misdemeanor is irrelevant ...you don't taser people for misdemeanor or non violent crimes...the police officer initiated the violence and was the use of excessive force....and BTW the taser has killed around a 1000 since it was incorporated in 2003...therefore it should be considered deadly force...maybe the charges for attempted murder are on the wrong person.

As long as we're writing alternative poll questions:
Are leftwingers capable of staying on topic?

The gentleman in question is lucky he didn't get double murder attempted charges as he really did some damage to more than the one police officer. He could have killed two people.....

MarkHighwater--you want the daily snooze to actually work? investigate? write a literate article? come on bro, where you been?
again, why was the guy fleeing from a simple misdemeanor? Guess it would have been better to have shot him, maybe killed him. The guy refused to stop, which if you had been the policeman, you would have walked away, right?

And you think your property taxes are high enough...wait until the city has to payout a multi million dollar settlement for a over zealous officer who doesn't understand or care what a taser is really for.

In a similar case, U.S. District Judge Timothy Black recently declined a motion to dismiss a 2008 case in Cincinnati involving Keith Cockrell who jaywalked then was subsequently immobilized by a Taser after fleeing Cincinnati Police. Black’s decision questions the constitutionality of the city’s training program and policies that allow officers to fire Tasers at suspects fleeing from nonviolent misdemeanor crimes

I hope the MDN will review and do a article on the Minot police departments taser policy....I would hope the usage of a taser for a fleeing misdemeanor suspect is not allowed.

There is way too much emphasis put on college and HS sports. Yes, sports can teach valuable lessons, but when teams are playing games/matches that are 10-12 hrs away their studies are sure to suffer. Our young people can't do basic math, but they know about the sport schedule. Shame on MSU for offering lesser tuition rates for students that sign up for sports. We have to get back to academics!

I agree a 100% with zagsfan. No need to write anymore comment other then; "That's the way Money Sucking University does it thing!"
FYI they have had 16 total NAIA All-Academic players since 1995..the requirement is be at least a junior, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and be varsity status... The University of Mary had 10 just last year, and they are not on the front page of any paper due to drug and assault charges...

Why yes, yes they do.. But then again it is MSU... They probably have a very small pool to choose from. They are going to continue to lose until they realize that they need to get the academic football players not the athletic football players. The athletic football players are a constant drain they need all the classroom help and usually are there just to play, they are in a very boring climate with people who,do not resemble them and they become restless. The coaches need to make better recruiting decisions and using things like midwest values, strong community involvement, higher GPA's as tools also. I strongly believe that we should be doing more recruiting from within the upper Midwest and that would relieve a lot of this. Getting a coach and AD that would let the players know who is BOSS would help too

No reasoning with you, namexxx.
Coming from a imbecile with an entitlement problem -- I consider that a compliment.
Now go have another brewski and clean your gun.

namexxx, we get that you are prejudice against anything or anyone white; but your comments also lack intelligent thought.
