Yes, Bill. I have been to the spoil hills near Velva, and also those between Beulah and Hazen. It's all well and good to have a few smaller areas like that, but they were mined well before the large scale operations going today. Do you think that the hundreds of thousands of acres that have been mined more recently should all have been left in spoils? I'm all for wildlife but that's a whole lot of land that would become useless for anything besides wildlife.

centerish has both talking points and typical behaviors down pat: critiques of all but the current administration, disdain for anyone in disagreement, name-calling and slams for all conservatives but never liberals.

Well, loco, you are your usual self. Can't back up your mouth. So, change the subject. Those items are facts, loco, not talking points. Your guys did it and you cannot defend it...Happy Fourth to you

A one word slam suffices as an answer to any question?
For centerish, you betcha.

"Those items are facts, loco, not talking points. Your guys did it and you cannot defend it...Happy Fourth to you..."
centerish, as long as I'm changing the subject, why don't you defend the President's move not to implement ACA policies on businesses until 2015? Does that bother you at all? Why this and why now?
Well, loco, you are your usual self. Can't back up your mouth. So, change the subject. Those items are facts, loco, not talking points. Your guys did it and you cannot defend it...Happy Fourth to you... As to billdoesnoteverevergetit, I think calling you dumb, ignorant, or just plain stupid would be offensive to those people who qualify for these terms. Those first two years were when McConnell and your idiot Republicans used a big portion of the filibuster moves. No bills came through that were passed in the House. But, you did not know that... Yep, you are beyond all the above terms.
willgrr, you're like a two-year-old, repeating and repeating, until all the adults roll their eyes behind your back.
Give it a rest and have a happy 3rd before 4th
Glad you were able to vent your talking points today, centerish.
Hope your Independence Day is great!
Lordy, lordy, loco, you have no memory, and certainly no common sense. The laws of this nation are made by the legislature and you certainly cannot hide from the behavior of your idiot representatives. Almost 400 filibusters by your boys and a house of miss representatives that has done nothing. They won't even bring the jobs bill to the floor for debate and that could equate to hundreds of thousands of jobs. But, loco, you don't care because all you follow is the winger dinger line. Too bad you cannot justify the DO NOTHING congress. Your representatives publicly state that they will do NOTHING on any bills put forth. The beginning of the end for the right wing republican party.

This "newspaper" should change its name. Tea Party Today would be my recommendation.
This from the same people who told us 30 years ago that laws on reclamation of mined land would be too expensive to make coal viable, and we should just let the mines leave everything in spoil hills when they're done.

Obama has been in charge for the last 5 years.."
According to some liberal posters, that's not really so, because they're still blaming former President Bush for any and all ills of the country. Nice to have a convenient scapegoat.
As far as Democrats reining in "their" president--c'mon, guys, he's "our" president--President Obama is his own person and how. Why would he condescend to be reined in by anyone now? He won re-election with a stinky economy - first time that's happened.
This thing on coal - if it is to be phased out as a contributor to our energy needs, I do hope there's a viable alternative that can take up the slack. Coal has been a major energy player for decades. Where does everyone think their electricity currently comes from? Little green power elves?
Call me crazy, but without a clean environment we'd wouldn't be here.
You know the environment- clean air to breath, fresh water to drink and food to eat.
Why does money have to always trump health? You think republicans would want a cleaner environmental bill so less money is spent on the affordable health care act (Obamacare)

What a question. Misguided? Republican paper are we?
Facts - The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 12,000 coal miners died from black lung disease between 1992 and 2002.
- Coal-fired power plants are the largest source of human-generated mercury pollution in the U.S.
Those are only a couple. Very easy to look up. When the paper says "Misguided" which part is misguided?
People complaining about the economy. Look at history. No matter who is in the presidency (dems or repubs) it takes at least 8-10 years to turn around the economy. So blaming Obama is a mooo point.

When you refer to the president as President Obama, you use a capital 'P'. When you say the president or their president, you use the lower case.
The Village Idiot in the White House is/was a cigarette smoker, so he knows about smoke belching from a smokestack.

Hey MDN. President is spelled with a capital "P" regardless if you agree with his policies or not.

The Burlington Northern Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad haul thousands of carloads of coal every week to coal-fired power plants.
Go to the BNSF web site and you can read the pdf on weekly hauls.
The railroads won't be silent on this issue and I suspect that they will not be willing to bend if it is going to break them.
Obama is a dumb as a post, which should be no surprise to anyone who can think.

Really believe this ridiculous question deserves a response. There is no "misguided war on coal". Also, remember any of you, that the GOP legislature in this pollution loving state lowered the air standards to meet the lowered requirements of GWB administration? The coal plants weren't having any problem meeting the EPA standards at that time. If you don't remember, look it up!

Last time I checked, Obama is everyone's president... He's not a wild horse that's out of control. He's also not the first president, Democratic or Republican, to try to regulate pollution.

Yeah, SOLYNDRA made so much sense. Solar is too far away to even be in the conversation, tree huggers hate wind turbines killing their birds and just HOW MANY dams would you like every 100feet?
All three of these are not even viable yet and cannot compare to coal generated. Besides, shut down coal and try and build your wind, hydro and solar.
