Which part of President Obama's proposed $487 billion cut to the defense budget over the next decade alarms you the most?

  1. Further base closings
  2. Higher health care fees for retirees and dependents
  3. Smaller pay raises for personnel

I'm alarmed at taxpayers forced to subsidize a private newspaper business.

Obama is not Mahatma Ghandi.

Can't continue spending twice as much as collected in revenues.

It is unsustainable.

What will Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, Boeing et al ever do without those defense contracts?

billgrr, do you get paid for your position of angst against this one former president? Hope it's worth it for you.

Cuts are OK, as long as they're across the board for every gov't dept. And the cuts will have to be approved by Congress, just like many liberals have told us before, while castigating the House of Representatives. We'll just see if any of these proposed "cuts" make it.

Now what I really don't like is that a "cut" in DC speak is only a reduction in an automatic budget increase. In my household, a "cut" means a budget item has to disappear, because there are no more funds to accommodate the program any longer. Automatic budget increases? Get real.

Why is it that retirees and seniors are always the ones that have to make the sacrifices? Take the benefits away from Congress such as the fact they receive their paycheck for the rest of their lives at the full amount.

vietnamvet69, I agree with your proposed cuts for members of Congress. Then their positions would be those of public service, not those of an eternal salary.

Red flags:

Gay marriage

Gun control

Red Herrings, nothing else. Nice diversion, grasshopper.

Stock market always goes up, if it ever goes down, it is minimal.

No talk of homelessness, even when there are 46 million people on SNAP.

Is there homelessness? Yes, there is. And the market is at the stratospheric levels that it is?

Balderdash! The price of gold is down 400 dollars an ounce.

Obama is a fool to believe his lying eyes.

You go ahead and believe your own lying eyes, but reality is says it ain't so.

North Korea is calling the shots, not Obama.

The Big Picture is bleak.

I think we can shut down all the bases now here in the USA. Enough of us old Conservative type are armed and have our stash of ammo. We can take care of ourselves.. It will be the Liberals who will be crying about not getting and protection. They also are the only ones that will miss the Post office as they need them to deliver their welfare checks and food stamps and free Obama phones..

Shut it all down and see who survives the best!!!

Taxing the rich will not be enough to balance our budgets (that's if the U.S. had a budget - none in the last 4 years) without performance audits and cutting govt. waste. There will be a tipping point in our society when class warfare of rich vs. poor will limit motivations and investment. Look to France's 75% tax on the rich as a poster child of what not to do: the very well off are beginning to feel used and abused and are moving out of the country. States, counties and cities are closer to bankruptcy and many are in the process because of mismanagement and overspending. Rainy day funds are a thing of the past and the population wants more and more from the government. 47 million of our people are on food stamps, 14 million are on disability and personal income levels are down for the last 8 years. Inflation is rising and this week the government wants to use a new method to rank inflation to further limit increases in Social Security checks to the elderly. And this is before Oba

And this is before Obamacare really kicks in and is enforced of all 300+ million of us.

And Hillary will be dancing out on the White house lawn in her lil pink tutu and her floppy little pony tail.

Probably with a flower in her teeth and screaming free love...

Idon't care. I'll ignore it and when I can't afford it, most likely I'll be dead. No longer my problem. And most likely Obama won't be President. And the rest of the of the old geezers will be dead too. Democrat and Replublican alike.

Missy1, I know you care so much more than most but like me we are both helpless and inconsequential. I have no idea who you are but I can tell you truly do care. It's just demoralizing to know so much has changed for the worse in our country, hang in there and fight a good fight.

OK, I'll bite.

Are you willing to close the military base in your town for the good of country? If it's "for the good of country," yes.

Are you willing to close the post office in your rural America? Yes.

Are you willing to stop receiving more than you give...Or getting more than you need? Already there, so yes.

Anything else? 'Cuz I gotta go to work...on Saturday....like every other day. Bye!
