Well, I did LOL when I read those two comments. To me, they were funny.
I picked the first option ("yes, long ago") because I get my stuff, sensitive or insensitive, to the post office myself. Part of daily errands. Plus, why would I choose to add to a postal carrier's bag, when in my daily routine, I can get the mail to the post office myself?
Sometimes things are done not out of fear, but out of common sense.

We must certainly support our local postal workers who by and large belong to the postal union. They need our dollars since they are in the red every year.
I suppose that people are afraid of fraudulent activity both at home and in Washington, the District of Corruption. We've been so accustomed of getting fleeced so why change now?
