Ask Marilyn: Should Models Look More Like Average People?
Lorinda Bale of Murrieta, California, writes:
Marilyn: The models in store catalogs and fashion magazines are better-looking than most similarly-aged people in the general population. Many of the women models are stunningly gorgeous, and many of the men are very handsome. Models tend to be thinner than many other people, too. Do you think that these extremely good-looking people should be used as models, even though they don't represent the appearance of most of the general population?
It makes sense to me. Many advertisers (not all, of course) need those fabulous models to get people to look at their ads. If the models looked like the average person, I don't think the ads would get as much attention.
