Where's the current Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and why is he afraid to debate Ryan Taylor?
Ryan Taylor has called on Commissioner Doug Goehring to debate him at anytime and anyplace, but Goehring has not yet accepted the offer. The Northwest Landowners Association tried for months to get a commitment from Goehring to a debate at the State Fair, but he wouldn't commit. So Taylor found himself on an empty stage at the State Fair but with a great audience that was hoping for a real debate. Where was Goehring? Why is he afraid to debate Taylor in person?
After months of silence, Goehring finally emerged from hiding in an opinion piece for a partisan blog which was reprinted in the major newspapers. Why is he hiding from Ryan? If Goehring is so confident in the personal and policy claims he makes in the opinion piece, why won't he debate them with Taylor in person?
I know that Taylor has a command of issues facing agriculture in North Dakota, and he has a vision for agriculture's future. With Goehring's record of the last five years, I can understand his reluctance to debate Taylor in person. With his record, he would be better off hiding in his office in Bismarck.
But the voters deserve a debate on the issues and on Goehring's record. Where is Goehring and why is he afraid to debate Taylor?
