Marvin Sloboden

Marvin R. Sloboden, 76, Eagan, Minn., passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at his home in Eagan.

Marvin was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Garrison, to William E. and Mary (Verbitsky) Sloboden. He grew up on the family farm in Great Stone, N.D. He graduated from Butte High School, in Butte, N.D., in 1956. In 1961 he joined the Army and served for four years. He was honorably discharged in 1965, achieving the rank of SP4 (E-4). He then attended college at Minot State University, in Minot, where he received a bachelor's degree. Marvin then began work for Control Data Corp. as an accountant where he worked for four years. Marvin then married Martha Ann Rossing in 1969 in Viroqua, Wis. They were happily married for the past 45 years. He then continued the majority of his working career at HealthEast Hospitals for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1996. Marvin was very active in organizing and coaching youth sports for the Eagan Athletic Association. Marvin also loved to bowl and play golf.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, William E. and Mary; and brothers, Walter, Lawrence, Robert and Raymond.

He is survived by: his wife, Martha, of Eagan; daughter, Nicole Ann (Vern) Hanson, of Montgomery, Minn.; sons, Jaimison (Lori) of St. Augustine, Fla., Walter (Tyonn) of Shakopee, Minn., and Erik (Lisa) of Montgomery, Minn.; grandchildren, Alicia, Annalys, Cooper, Quinn and Grace; many nieces and nephews; brothers, Edward (Nita) and Jon (Sandi); and many other relatives.

Memorial service will be: Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension, 1801 E. Cliff Road in Burnsville, Minn., with a gathering one hour prior to the service at the church.

Private inurnment will be: later at the Great Stone Russian Cemetery in Benedict, N.D.

Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
