This colored pencil drawing of a northern pintail drake earned 18-year-old Brennen Stotts, Lisbon, “Best of Show” in the North Dakota Junior Duck Stamp Contest. The contest was sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with judging conducted at Audubon National Wildlife Refuge. Stotts’ winning entry was titled “Just Chilling.” His accompanying conservation message was “Nature can be your best friend.” The winning artist participated in the contest while in grades 3-7 and again as a senior. During that time Stotts received four first-place finishes and one second. On April 18, his “Best of Show” depiction will compete in the National Junior Duck Stamp Contest along with other state and U.S. Territory entries. The national winner will have his or her artwork reproduced on the Junior Duck Stamp.
