April 28, 1928-March 3, 2014

Minot Daily News

Angels were singing as the pearly gates opened to welcome our beloved Alice Mary Grosz on March 3, 2014. She was 85 when she succumbed to a lung disease.

Alice was born on April 28, 1928, in Willow City, N.D., and was a strong loving woman until the very end. She worked hard as a shipwelder, then eventually made her way to Iowa to raise her family with her husband. Alice was proud to call herself a chef and worked for years at Bucknam's Imperial House in Des Moines, Iowa. After retiring as a chef, she became self-employed at an RV center.

Alice always had a friendly smile and an open door for anyone in need. For fun, Alice enjoyed going to garage sales and couldn't wait to show a grandchild what new toy she picked up for them. Alice was always known for her beautiful yard with vast flower gardens she so loved to work in. However, nothing made her happier than to gather the family at her home for a large Sunday dinner. She was always the last one to be seated because she was making sure everyone had everything they needed and more. She gave us all great memories and she will be tremendously missed.

Alice was preceded in death by: her parents, Frances Martin and Jim Johnson; eight brothers and sisters; her husband, Emanuel Grosz; children, Jeanne, Brenda and Cheryl Blunt.

She is survived by: her brother, Charles Belgarde; daughter, Lynda (Gary) Millard; son, William (Martha) Grosz; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and loving family.

Funeral services will be: Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, with visitation one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

Entombment will be at Merle Hay Mausoleum.
