Minot Daily News

Marcus Anthony Cox, 24, Minot, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, in his home.

Marcus was born Sept. 27, 1989, to Bill and Colleen (Faul) Cox, in Minot.

Marcus was a special gift given to his parents, brother, family, friends, and to everyone who came into contact with him. His laugh was contagious. Through all the challenges that Marcus had in his life he was a blessing to others and gave all of himself to others.

He was raised in Minot and spent all of his life living and serving in Minot. He attended Minot Public Schools and graduated from Minot High School. He was fortunate to attend Minot State University for a short time through a special program with Minot Public Schools. Marcus also attended and volunteered at First Assembly of God church. There he participated in the Singing Christmas Tree, Easter pageant, picnics and many other activities. He played baseball for Dream Catchers, enjoyed bowling and participated in Special Olympics bowling and basketball. Currently, he especially enjoyed visiting with friends and the activities at 2nd Story.

From an early age Marcus knew and was determined to be a fireman, paramedic, and a policeman. He loved his "guys" and was always worried and prayed for them. Marcus also volunteered and was part of the Minot Rural Fire Department, helping them by rolling up hoses, checking emergency lights and "bugging" the chief. He also received the high honor of becoming the second person in the nation to become an honorary special agent for Homeland Security. There was not a day that went by that Marcus did not show care and concern for all of his "guys."

Marcus also spent the past couple of years volunteering with the "Meals On Wheels" program. During the Minot flood of 2011 Marcus spent months assisting with distributing needed supplies, water and helping out in any way that he could for others that were in need in the city.

Marcus also volunteered his time back to Central Campus, assisting them with shredding. He would always have to check into the main office that he designated as dispatch and was always ready to help when he was needed.

He was a blessing and miracle that has touched so many lives. Thank you Marcus for sharing your life, laughter and giving heart with us.
