Verna Lorraine Vaage, 83, of Stanley, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, in the Stanley hospital.

Verna was born Dec. 21, 1929, at Palermo, the daughter of Harold and Asthri (Myhre) Ostdahl. She was raised and educated in Palermo.

On Dec. 9, 1949, she married John Kenneth Vaage in Stanley. They made their home in Lostwood until 1959, when they moved to Blaisdell. In 1972 they moved to Stanley. Verna was a stay at home mother who took pride in raising her family. She later worked at Hardware Hank and Prairie Outfitters, as well as various other local businesses.

She was always willing to help wherever she was needed or asked. Verna enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling and attending the sporting events in Stanley. She was also an avid fan of her favorite professional sports teams. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Verna was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Stanley, where she taught Catechism and was involved with the altar society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Golden Age Club, both of Stanley.

Verna is survived by: her sons, Jim (Marla), of Priest River, Idaho, Greg, of Minot, and Bruce, of Grand Forks; daughter, Kathy Hettenbaugh (Bruce), of Fargo; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Ostdahl (Marge), of Minot; sister, Vivian Grinolds (Doug), of Craig, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenny; son, Brian; brothers, Lawrence, Alvin and Clarence; and sisters, Mildred, Ruth, Avis and Nellie.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., in Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Stanley.

Rosary: Friday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m., in the church.

Visitation: Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Stanley.

Memorials: Are preferred to the Veterans Memorial Park, Golden Age Club or the organization of the donor's choice.
