Francis V. Martwick, 82, Balfour, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.
Francis Martwick, son of August and Anna (Pankratz) Martwick, was born Nov. 20, 1930, on the family farm northeast of Balfour where he lived his entire life. He attended the nearby Fairview country school and later the Balfour Public School.
Francis began farming with his father at an early age and later took over the family farm and dairy operation. He continued to farm until retiring in 2002 and remained active on the farm well after his retirement.
He was married to Odessa Ray on Dec. 20, 1983. She passed away May 19, 1989.
Francis was always willing to help his family, friends and neighbors and anyone who was in need. He served on the Balfour Township Board for more than 40 years and on the Balfour Lutheran Church Board for many years. He also helped with the maintenance and record keeping for the Balfour Cemetery for a number of years.
Francis is survived by: his sister, Delores (Joe) Lemer, of Drake; his dear friend, Elaine Vollmer, of Drake; brother-in-law, Lyle Tilton, of Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; his parents; seven brothers, Maynard (Rose), Alfred, Harold (Theresia), Delmer, Everett (Charlotte), Eddie and Archie; and three sisters, Leona (Rudy) Hartman, Annie Martwick and Dorothy Tilton.
Funeral: Saturday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake.
Burial: Balfour Cemetery in Balfour.
Visitation: Friday, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.
