Opal Laura Rovig, 91, Minot, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, in a Minot nursing home.
Opal was born July 18, 1922, on the family farm near Minot, the daughter of Claude and Marian (Seney) Irwin. She was raised and educated in the South Prairie area and at Alexander. After completing her education, she assisted her family with the operation of the farmstead south of Minot.
Opal was united in marriage to Harold Rovig on July 14, 1939, near Minot. They made their home in Velva while Harold was employed in the coal mines there. They then made their home near Minot for several years before purchasing a farm in 1945 in Burt Township of Ward County. They lived there until 1984, when they retired from farming and moved to Albany, Ore., where they operated an adult foster care home. In 1995, they returned to Minot. Harold died Feb. 28, 2009.
Opal was a member of the Lighthouse Church, Minot, and the Burt Township Homemakers Club. She enjoyed painting, reading, cooking and baking.
Her loving family includes; son, Lonnie (Carol) Rovig, of Albany, Ore.; grandchildren, Sandra, Scott, Susan, Stacy and Jonni; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard (Laurel) Irwin, Minot; sister-in-law, Marcella Irwin, Minot; and several nieces and nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband of nearly 70 years, Harold; sister, Blanche; brothers, Willard, Roy, Albert and Lynn; along with two infant sons.
Funeral service: Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., in First Assembly of God Church, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 3 to 7 p.m., in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to the North Dakota Alzheimer's Association.
