Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Grantier

Elizabeth "Betty" Grantier, 96, Sidney, Mont., formerly of Minot, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in Sidney.

Betty was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Williston, to McKenzie County pioneer ranchers, Frank and Elizabeth (Carney) Keogh. She graduated from high school in Sanish and later earned her degree from St. Catherine College in St. Paul, Minn. Betty taught in Sanish and Watford City high schools and later worked in the office of Northwest Airlines in St. Paul.

Betty was united in marriage to Edward Grantier on May 7, 1946, at Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City. Betty and Ed lived in Minot for 54 years where he was employed at Westland Oil Company. After Ed's retirement the couple wintered in southern Texas. Betty and Ed traveled extensively, including three trips to Europe, a cruise to Alaska, the Maritime Provinces, as well as many U.S. points and Mexico. In 2000, Ed and Betty moved to Sidney to an assisted living facility to be closer to their daughter, Jayne, and family. Ed died in 2002 and Betty continued to live in Sidney.

Betty was very proud of her Irish heritage and spoke often of her trips to Ireland.

She is survived by: her son, Brooks (Wanza) Grantier, Marshall, Mich.; daughter, Jayne (Gary) Miller, Sidney; five grandchildren, Charles Grantier, Marguerite (Scott) Grupke, Elise (Chris) Schut, Katie (Dan) Malott and Geoff (Kelly) Miller; and six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by: her husband, Ed; and her brother, Brooks Keogh.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, Oct. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
