ZAP Chip Unruh, 88, Zap, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, in a Beulah nursing home.
He was born March 5, 1925, to George and Christina Unruh, in Golden Valley. He volunteered to serve in the Navy in 1943 and served on the island of Iwo Jima and flew 17 missions to Japan. He was discharged April 23, 1946. He served an additional five years in the Naval Reserve. He married LaVerna Adolf on March 28, 1948, in Zap.
Survivors: wife; daughters, Pamela Weidner, Dickinson, Nancy Unruh, of Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Clarence, Laramie, Wyo., Harvey, of Bismarck, Terry, Beulah; and sisters, Freda Krieger, Bismarck, Helen Koppi, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Darlyne Rice, Highland Ranch, Colo.
Funeral: Monday, 11 a.m., Immanuel Lutheran Church, Zap.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Visitation: Sunday, 5 to 7 p.m., in Barbot-Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
