Brenda (Scherr) Cunningham, 52, Minot, formerly of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Trinity Homes in Minot.

Brenda Renae Scherr was born Jan. 27, 1961, the daughter of Anton and Marcella (Volk) Scherr, in Minot. She was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1979.

After her graduation from high school, Brenda worked as a waitress for various restaurants. Brenda was once married to Nelson Sanford. From this union a son, Ryne, was born. While living at Minot Air Force Base, she operated a pet supply store out of her home.

In 1992, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked as a waitress for various restaurants. Brenda married Robert Cunningham Jan. 3, 2000. Later that year, she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, but never let this get her down.

She was first diagnosed with cancer in 2008, with a recurrence in September of 2012. Because of this, she decided to move back to Minot in December of 2012, so that her mother, Marcy, could care for her. Earlier this month, she moved into Trinity Homes, when she needed 24-hour nursing care.

She was once a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot.

Brenda enjoyed doing crafts, cross-stitching, and collecting antiques, baby dolls, and jewelry. She loved her many pet dogs, cats, fish and birds.

Surviving family includes: husband, Robert, Mechanicsburg, Ohio; son, Ryne Sanford, Columbus, Ohio; mother, Marcy Scherr, Minot; brother, Wayne (Rebecca Jo) Scherr, Minot, and Leon (Barbara) Scherr, Minot; nephews, Cameron Scherr, and Tanner Scherr and his fiancee, Michelle Zaderaka, and their daughter, Madison Scherr, and Michelle's daughter, Zoe Zaderaka; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Anton; maternal grandparents, Mike and Margaret Volk; paternal grandparents, Peter and Frances Scherr; cousin, Cherie Volk; and several aunts and uncles.
