The Minot High School boys tennis team avenged a close early-season loss to Williston, topping the Coyotes 5-2 Tuesday at Magic City Campus.
The match didn't count toward the conference standings and consisted of matchups between four singles players and three doubles duos. Williston beat the Magicians 5-4 in the teams' first meeting this season.
MHS (4-5) won at all four singles spots, led by junior Dustin Foster's 6-0, 6-0 dispatching of Tracer Overland at No. 1. Junior Ty Nygaard also won in straight sets at No. 3, and seniors Isaac Massey and David Hurteau won three-setters at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively.
Minot High School senior Isaac Massey eyes a backhand during his No. 2 singles victory over Williston senior Travis Kuhn on Tuesday at Magic City Campus.
"Ty Nygaard at No. 3 singles played possibly his best match of the year," MHS coach Scott DeLorme said in a press release. "He's showed signs all year and finally put together a consistent match and it showed in his 6-2, 6-1 win."
DeLorme said Massey "didn't have his best tennis," but battled to victory. Massey lost the first set and trailed 0-3 in the second before rallying to a 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 win.
Juniors Josh Thompson and Tristan Hance earned Minot's lone doubles tally, defeating Jace Paryzek and Brooks Hodenfield 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.
The Magicians host Mandan at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Magic City Campus in their final regular-season West Region match.
