John L. Hambek, 68, Minot, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in a Minot hospital.
John Lynn Hambek was born May 29, 1945, a son of Lynn and Leona (White) Hambek, in Minot. He was raised on his parents' farm north of Minot, and attended Eureka School. John graduated from Minot High School in 1963.
Following his graduation, John enlisted in the Army National Guard. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1969.
On Oct. 4, 1975, John was united in marriage to Ann (Dower) Urbana, along with her seven children. They purchased a home in Minot, where they raised their family. Farming was John's passion until a heart attack in 1991 prevented him from continuing. He became a licensed realtor for several years, but continued farming by assisting his friends with the spring planting and fall harvesting.
John was a lifetime member of the WFLA Bohemian Lodge and a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Aerie. John's love for playing cards was known by all. He also enjoyed playing Farkle with his sons and grandsons. He was an avid and proud spectator at all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.
Some of the fondest memories we will share for years to come will be the family gathering at Grandma Ann's and Grandpa's. John fought long and hard, however is now at peace. He was a great husband, brother, father, grandfather "papa," and friend. He will be missed and loved, always and forever.
