Adell Rae Guidinger Lium, 70, beloved wife and life partner, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home in Mansfield, Texas, Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.

The family suggests that memorials honoring Adell's life be made to ( or (

Adell was born in Kenmare, to Lyle and Muriel Guidinger. The family moved to Minot in 1951. She attended Longfellow Elementary, transferring to Minot junior and senior high, graduating in 1960. She received a teaching degree from Minot State College in 1964 and taught at Minot Air Force Base and in the East Grand Forks school system. Later in life she taught in the Ellensburg, Wash., school system.

She married Lawrence H. Lium on Aug. 1, 1964, in Minot. They have a son, Joel, born in Minot in 1967, and a daughter, Alison, born in Louisville, Ky., in 1971.

Following in her husband's career in higher education, she lived in Hanover, Ind., Jacksonville, Fla., Norman, Okla., and Ellensburg. They both retired in 2005 and moved to Mansfield to be near their son, daughter and granddaughter.

Adell was a blessing and inspiration to all who knew her. She has many lifelong friends from every place the Lium's called home. She was always there when the family needed her and was the most loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. With her selfless attitude she always put others ahead of herself. Adell never wanted people to go out of their way for her. Yet, she did it all of the time for others.

Throughout life Adell always had a mild, sweet yet decisive temperament that made her a joy to be around, even in the toughest situations. Her amazing strength was shown most clearly by enduring nearly three years of chemotherapy treatments and three operations without any complaint that one would know about. Decisive to the end she made decisions that the family agreed with but could not make themselves. Adell was a remarkable woman who most likely never realized how many people she had an impact upon in her lifetime.

Adell was preceded in death by her father in 1962 and her mother in 2004.

Survivors: Husband, Lawrence "Larry" Lium: son, Joel; daughter, Alison and husband, Ron Mendelsohn, and granddaughter, Laurin Mendelsohn; brother, Don Guidinger, and wife, Linda, Minot, and brother, Loren Guidinger, and wife, Cheryl, Lansford.
