Margaret Hovde, 85, formerly of Arnegard, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Williston.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, at Wilmington Lutheran Church, in Arnegard, with Rev. Kevin Beard and Mark Honstein. Interment will be at Timber Creek Cemetery, rural Arnegard.

Margaret was born May 5, 1928, on the family homestead in Patent Gate Township, Arnegard, N.D., to Thorleif and Kristine Drangsholt.

Margaret started her education at Patent Gate School and graduated from Antler High School. After graduation, she went to New Jersey to work and spend time with her sisters, Tilda and Gina. While there, she worked at a hat factory and a meat market.

Margaret married Hjalmer Hovde on June 17, 1951, at the First Lutheran Church, near Antler, N.D. Margaret and Hjalmer started out farming on the river bottom and then moved to the family farm near Arnegard and raised their two children, Lynn and Nancy.

Margaret was an active farm wife, even though reluctant at times. People would say "Margaret, you are just what Hjalmer needed." Hjalmer preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1984, after 33 years of marriage.

Margaret was a very generous person and made quilts for her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews and their kids. She also spent endless hours making mission quilts for the church.

Margaret was a member of the Timber Creek and Wilmington churches. She was actively involved with the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Cheery Homemakers.

She is survived by: son, Lynn (Patti) Hovde; daughter, Nancy (Bill) Chamness; grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Keily, Danny and Abby, Heidi (Leroy) Rink, Brady and Billy, Nathan (Kristi) Hovde, Shyanna, Skyla and Jax, and Daniel (Courtney) Chamness, Carter and Emily; her sister, Esther (Roy) Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Tilda Zeleznik and Gina Schultz; and brothers, Thomas, Erling, and Chris, (the "us she(3) boys").

Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston today, Aug. 4, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and one hour before services at the church on Monday. Online condolences may be shared with the family on (www.fulkersons.com).
