Ron Paulson

Ronald Lee Paulson, age 71, of Surrey, N.D., and formerly of Fargo, N.D., passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Crosby, N.D.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Ron was born May 13, 1942, to Marvin Orville Paulson and Esther Olga Paulson (Gimbel) in Bismarck, N.D.

Ron enlisted in the Army at age 18 and was rapidly promoted to Sergeant by age 21. He served 21 years, including two terms in Vietnam, and retired honorably as a Sergeant First Class in 1981.

After retiring, Ron enrolled in college on the GI bill at UND-Williston and then at NDSU and graduated with a degree in Agriculture. He worked as a vocational agriculture teacher in Westhope, N.D., and later worked for the ASCS in Langdon, N.D. He retired from US Bank Fargo in 2009.

Ron was a proud veteran and beloved father and grandpa who loved farming, fishing, gardening, dancing, and reading. He lived in or visited 49 of the 50 states and many countries, including Japan, Germany, and New Zealand, but enjoyed North Dakota most of all. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by: his sister, Janet Thompson, and brother, David Paulson, of Utah; his five children, Brittany Trewin, of Fayetteville, Ark., Janet Finlayson, of Lakeville, Minn., Ron Paulson Jr., of Surrey, N.D., Katrina Paulson, of Reno, Nev., and Erin Paulson, of Red Feather Lakes, Colo.; and his nine grandchildren, Brandon Ladendorf, of Minot, N.D., Morgan Trewin, of Waskada, Manitoba, Canada, Bailey Paulson, of Reno, Nev., Ron Paulson III, of Surrey, N.D., Dylan Franks and Ben Paulson, of Red Feather Lakes, Colo., and Zach, Ethan and Josh Finlayson, of Lakeville, Minn.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW at (www.vfw.org/contribution).
