Gerald "Jerry" Eberly, of Lincoln, Neb., died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in Lincoln.
He was born June 2, 1928, to William and Nellie Eberly, in Alliance, Neb. Jerry married Marilyn Beisner in 1950. He attended Doane College and graduated from LaVerne University, LaVerne, Calif., in 1953.
Jerry started a 30-year career with the YMCA at the Pasadena, Calif., YMCA. Later, he worked at the St. Louis, Mo., Green Bay, Wis., and finally, as general director of the Minot YMCA in Minot, N.D. He then worked in car sales in Green Bay until 1998, when he retired. Along with Marilyn, they chose to spend their retirement in Lincoln. In 2004, Jerry wrote and had published, a novel, "Sam's Journey," which was based a lot on family history and stories heard as a child. His family is proud of this accomplishment in his later life.
He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn; children, Nancy (Gilbert) Rojo, Templeton, Calif., Linda (Greg) Grupe, Port Townsend, Wash., Michael Eberly, Green Bay, Wis., Bill (Joadie) Eberly, Hemet, Calif., David (Darcy) Eberly, Highland Ranch, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Jackie (Harold) Neill, Cozad, Neb., Janice Peel, Indianapolis, Ind.; and brother-in-law, John Beisner, Boulder Creek, Calif.
Services: Friday, July 26, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St. Lincoln, NE.
No visitation; cremation will take place.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Doane College or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
