BISMARCK - The Minot Vistas dropped a nine-inning American Legion baseball game 6-5 to the Bismarck Governors on Thursday.
Bismarck jumped to a 4-0 lead through two innings and held off Minot's rally, which included a four-run fifth inning.
Demitry Zafra gave up six runs (four earned) in four innings and fell to 2-7. Andrew Dill earned the win as Bismarck (27-15 overall, 9-8 statewide) led by the final score after he gave up the big fourth inning.
"Jacob Holmen was really good in relief for us," Minot coach Todd Larson said. "He kept Bismarck off the scoreboard once he came in the game."
Holmen gave up four hits in four scoreless innings with two strikeouts and no walks. Caleb Fornshell and Brock Krueger each finished 2 for 5 to lead Minot. The Vistas left 11 runners on base.
Minot had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning, but Brady Lampert's near-walkoff hit was snagged by a Bismarck outfielder.
Minot (24-18, 10-6) finishes the regular season with a road doubleheader against Fargo on Saturday. The games count toward the state standings. The top six spots out of 10 are still being decided and Minot can finish as high as second.
