Jerome "Jerry" Lee Durick, 72, Bowbells, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, in his home.

Jerry was born May 5, 1941, in Kenmare, to James S. and Marie L. (Powell) Durick. He grew up in Bowbells and attended school at St. Agnes Catholic School in Kenmare.

At a young age he moved to the West Coast and worked for Boeing Aircraft and then worked for West Water Way Lumber, both in Seattle. Jerry then decided the West Coast wasn't for him and in the '60s he returned to the prairies of North Dakota.

Jerry operated heavy equipment his entire life and worked for Roy Faulk Construction, out of Lignite, during the first flood in Minot. He then worked for Struksnes Construction in Minot for a short time and for Claremont Construction where he worked on the McClusky Canal. Jerry moved to eastern North Dakota and helped build Interstate 29. He later worked for Nelson Construction, of Beach, and worked on building the Minot lagoon, and he worked in the coal mines near Noonan.

Following the death of his father in 1982 in Arizona, he moved to Phoenix to be near his mother. While he was there he operated a crane for American Towers for three years. He and his mom moved back to Bowbells. Jerry retired but began employment for the City of Bowbells where he worked until the fall of 2012, when he was forced to retire due to ill health.

Jerry was a member of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Prairies, Powers Lake, and when that church closed he attended St. Michael's Catholic Church, in Mandan.

Those who shared in Jerry's life: brothers, Dean (Jean) Durick, Bowbells, and Tom Durick, Carlsbad, Calif.; and three aunts. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Marie, and sister, Mary Lee Durick.

Burial: Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Columbus.
