Myron Schell, 57, of Underwood, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, from pancreatic cancer while at home under hospice care.
Myron was born Feb. 18, 1956, in Turtle Lake, to Lewellyn and Frances (Wilkie) Schell. He attended St. Leo's Catholic Elementary School in Minot and graduated from Underwood High School in 1974. He married Diane Sayler, of Underwood, on June 11, 1976.
Myron worked at R&S Oil, Clairmont Construction and was an ironworker in Local 793 for 15 years. He then worked 25 years as an industrial maintenance mechanic at Great River Energy.
Myron was very involved in his local community, serving as a member of the Underwood City Commission and the Underwood Park Board. He was an instructor for N.D. Hunter Safety for more than 30 years, as well as a member of the Underwood Jaycees, where he earned numerous local, state and national awards for community service. Myron lived his life based on the Jaycee creed "Service to humanity is the best work of life." Myron enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by: his wife, Diane; three sons, Mark Schell, of Underwood, Christopher (Danika) Schell, of Washburn, and Jason Schell, of Carrington; two grandchildren, Dillon and Kate Schell, of Washburn; his mother and stepfather, Frances and Lester Zitzow, of Stacy, Minn.; his stepmother, Sharon Schell, of Underwood; one brother, Fred Schell, of Stacy, Minn.; five sisters, Cynthia (Jim) Peach, of Belcourt, Jennie Gremmer, of Forest Lake, Minn., Juanita (David) Hinrichsen, of Wyoming, Minn., Leslie (John) Bettcher, of Lino Lakes, Minn., and Denita (Kelly) Roth, of Lincoln; two stepbrothers, Scott Zitzow, of Stacy, and Terry (Jessica) Zitzow, of North Branch, Minn. Myron is also survived by many "in-laws and outlaws," as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Myron was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, at 10:30 a.m., at the Underwood School Gymnasium with Rev. Dean Hartley officiating.
Interment will follow in the Underwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Underwood.
