Ralph Wheeler, 85, Minot, formerly of Palermo, and Brandon, S.D., died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Ralph Morley Wheeler was born March 28, 1928, the son of Richard E. and Mary E. (Grant) Wheeler, in Ulen, Minn. He was raised and educated in Ulen. Ralph was once married to Judith Berget. They made their home in the Ulen/Hitterdal, Minn., area, and later in Sioux Falls, S.D. From this union, three children, Rachael, Jeffrey and Charles, were born.
Ralph worked several years in construction. He built log cabins, and was instrumental in the construction of many commercial buildings, which included: Country Kitchen Restaurants in the Midwest, the Sioux Falls, S.D., Empire Mall, Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, and a hotel resort in Utah.
Ralph married Renee Reed in 1982. They made their home in Stanley. From this union, two daughters, Mary and Sara, were born. They were later divorced.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed restoring horse-drawn buggies, and raising farm animals, reading, and participating in Toastmasters.
Surviving family includes: children, Rachael Meyer, Sioux Falls, Charles Wheeler, of Stanley, Mary Wheeler, Minot, and Sara Wheeler, Rugby; grandchildren, Theresa Wallin and David Meyer; Amy Houck and Emily Wheeler; and Jeffrey Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Mekenna Donahue, Vivian Wallin, Mikayla Meyer, Trey Meyer, Kendra Wheeler and Caleb Wheeler; sister, Shirley (Al) Dorseth, Little Falls, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey; brothers, Ron and Richard Wheeler; and a sister, Joyce Dyre.
Memorial gathering: Sunday, May 26, 2013, from noon to 3 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
