Souris Valley United Way awarded more than $418,000 to local area programs during an open house held Thursday.
The awards represented a 26.7 percent increase from theyear prior.
Thirty-one local programs received grants totaling $418,000 from Souris Valley United Way. Each grant directly addresses the areas of education, financial stability and health. Program applications were accepted in areas including school readiness and success; youth leadership; financial stability; emergency assistance; physical and emotional wellness; and nutrition.
"The generosity of the community over the past four years has allowed grant distributions to increase by 79 percent. This year we are very excited that 12 local programs will receive their full grant request,"said Jarid Lundeen, board president of Souris Valley United Way.
"The city is growing and so is our campaign," he added. "We raise the money and they do the work."
