It is with great sadness that we announce that Russ Kemmit, president and founder of Golf Tournaments Inc., passed away at Hospice of the Valley in Goodyear, Ariz., on April 17, 2013, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 29, 1945, in Harvey, to Albert and Lenora (Adam) Kemmit. Russ founded GTI in 1987 as a small golf car company doing sales and rentals in Colorado in the early years, and became an EZ-GO distributor in 1996, which he has maintained since that time.
Russ had many long-standing friendships and working relationships with prestigious annual events to include Barrett Jackson Auto Auctions and Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show to mention a few. Russ (known as "Griz" by his friends), was an avid car enthusiast, starting with racing his #90 Sportsman stock car at Colorado National Speedway in the 1960s and 1970s with son Lee carrying on the tradition over the years in Sportsman #98. Along with his family Russ's true passion was his love for his collection of antique cars and restoring them to their original condition.
Russ is survived by: his wife, Zuniga Rae Kemmit; mother, Lenora Kemmit; children, Laura (Larry) Lewark and Lee (Misty) Kemmit; stepson, Gary Hardy; six grandchildren, Ashlee Kemmit, Alyssa Lewark, Casey Lewark, Dallas Hardy, Zuniga Hardy and Allona Novakovick; great-grandchild, Callee Rodriguez; and sisters, Janice Noehre and Marcella Paulus.
