Cooperation in action

April 16, 2013
Minot Daily News
From left to right, North Dakota State University professor Greg McKee, Minot State University student Kelsey Jacobson, and Randy Hauck, member services and assistant general manager at Verendrye Electric in Velva, are shown during a tour Jacobson took earlier this month.
Jacobson, a junior from Hazen, toured Verendrye as part of a class on the inner workings of cooperatives. The class, taught over interactive television by McKee, covers the origins of cooperative businesses, scope of cooperatives in the economy, cooperative business management and governance, and cooperative business finance. Jacobson, a junior majoring in management information systems, is the only MSU student taking the course. Other students from colleges across North Dakota are enrolled and will also tour cooperative businesses in their area. Jacobson said she is taking the class because she is interested in working for a cooperative one day. Verendrye Electric is one of several cooperative businesses in the state.
