Ardis Delores Huizenga, 83, Glenburn, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at her daughter's residence in Minot. In the last few months of her illness, she was cared for by her family while residing at her daughter Barb's residence in Minot, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Ardis was born Oct. 6, 1929, at Minot, to Archie and Minnie Mae (Swords) White. She was baptized at First Presbyterian Church, Minot, and educated in Minot.
Ardis was united in marriage to Robert Huizenga on Oct. 6, 1949, at First Presbyterian Church, Minot. They made their home on a farm near Glenburn in Tatman Township of Ward County starting in 1950, where they farmed throughout the years and raised their five children. In addition, Ardis was employed for many years in various capacities at the Minot Labor Temple, Minot Eagles Club and Minot American Legion Club. Her husband, Bob died March 18, 2005.
Ardis was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Minot, where she was active with the Presbyterian Women's Association. She was also a member of the Minot American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. She had served as past president of the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family. She especially enjoyed cooking and hosting large gatherings at her home for the holidays or anytime someone would drop by the house. Playing bingo and cards were some of her favorite pastimes. Ardis had a generous and caring heart for others. She will be missed by all who shared in her life.
Her loving family includes: children, Sandra Forman, of Dallas, Robert (Sharon) Huizenga Jr, Glenburn, Bonnie (Eugene) Iverson, Minot, Archie (Rebecca) Huizenga, of Dallas, and Barbara (Rodney) Fossen, Minot; seven grandchildren, John (Amy) Ingram, Corinth, Texas, Scott (Lesley) Huizenga, East Grand Forks, Minn., Byron (Rebecca) Huizenga, Kenmare, Daniel (Tanya) Iverson, Prior Lake, Minn., Kari Iverson, Sturgis, S.D., Ryan Iverson, of Denver, and Paula Fossen, Minot; six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Karson and Grayson Ingram, Nicholas Huizenga, Abigail and Mackenzie Huizenga; sister, Doris Dreis, St. Paul, Minn.; brother, Robert White, Minot; and several nieces and nephews.
Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Hazel Sabo, Margaret (Tofteland) Wills, Blanche Suelzle, Norma Stevenson, Delcelle "Jean" Anderson; and brothers, Archie and Donald.
Funeral service: Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Monday, April 15, from 2 to 7 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
Memorials: Are preferred to First Presbyterian Church Choir.
