MAXBASS Joanne Johnson, 82, Minot, formerly of Maxbass, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at a Minot nursing home.

Joanne was born Sept. 29, 1930, near Halliday, to Frank and Myrtle (Irons) Riemer. She graduated from Halliday High School in 1948 and attended Minot Teachers College. Joanne taught in rural Eckman, where she met James O. Johnson. They were married on Feb. 23, 1952, at the Johnson farm near Eckman. They lived in Maxbass for many years, where her husband was a mail carrier. James died Feb. 16, 2011.

Joanne was a member of English Lutheran Church, Maxbass, and the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America group, was a Sunday school teacher, served on the church council and as church treasurer. She was a member of the Maxbass Parent-Teacher Organization, the Maxbass Golf Club, helped organize the Maxbass School Reunion, and was involved with the Maxbass Area Development committee, and sat on a local election board. She also enjoyed watching high school basketball.

Family: children, David (Pam) Johnson, Minot, Joleen Johnson, Minot, and Jonathan (Sandra) Johnson, Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Matthew, James (Tenille), Jordan, Jodi, Samantha and Hannah Johnson; great-granddaughter, Preslee Isabella Johnson; brother, Jerry (Doris) Riemer, Dickinson; sisters-in-law, Jean Riemer, Wannette, Okla., Marian Crawford, Minot, and Helen Johnson, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents; infant daughter; brother, Bob Riemer; and brothers-in-law, Ira, Jesse and Arlan Johnson, and Bill Crawford.

Funeral: Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 2 p.m., at English Lutheran Church, Maxbass.

Burial: Eckman Riverside Cemetery, rural Maxbass, later in the spring.

Visitation: Saturday, two hours prior to the service, at the church.
